For my bachelor’s thesis, I conducted an in-depth exploration of the phenomenon known as FOMO—the fear of missing out. The thesis, complemented by a creatively designed magazine as the practical component, was structured into four distinct parts.

The first section delves into the origins of FOMO, illustrating that this feeling has long been a part of human nature, rooted in our evolutionary survival instincts. The second section examines how social media has amplified FOMO, intensifying its impact on individuals today. The third part analyzes the strategic use of FOMO in marketing practices, while the final section addresses the growing ethical responsibility of designers to avoid exploiting people’s mental health in pursuit of marketing objectives.




The whole magazine was designed to be an analogue pendant to a social media feed. This is why every page looks very different while still following certain formal requirements (like on social media) like a consistent use of the same types.
